Confessional:

I'm a book hoarder!

I've read 7 out of 25 books on this shelf.

I have a confession to make. I am a book hoarder. A pretty serious one. I loooove reading, but I have so many books, that I own, that I have never read. Because I hoard them. I don't know exactly why I do this. I mean, I wasn't born during the depression.

My typical reading pattern is to mainly get books from the library and to occasionally buy a book, maybe a couple of times a month. I used to buys cookbooks all the time, but I would only use about half of them, so checking cookbooks out from the library was a life-changer. Now I only buy a cookbook if I know I'll use it multiple times.

But back to the hoarding problem. This past January, one of my New Year's resolutions was to not buy any books. All year. My plan was to read a lot of books that I already owned, so no need to buy any new ones. While my resolution to not buy books went pretty well, I didn't read any of the books I already have.

I have figured out one of the reasons behind this quirk. I always have a large stack of library books. I go to the library very regularly. Usually at least once a week. And because the books I check out have to eventually be taken back, I feel a little bit of pressure to finish them in a timely manner.

I also have a silly fear that if for some reason I can't get to the library (I don't know a blizzard? Hurricane? I mean would my lack of reading material really be at the forefront of my mind?!) I would still have an ample amount of books to occupy me.

So that is my confession in all it's ridiculous glory. Are any of you book hoarders?

Cheers to quirks!
